Backend software Engineer

About Aloxy

Aloxy (www.aloxy.io) is a young tech company that builds a modular industrial IoT solution for the process and chemical industry consisting of devices, wireless communication, a IIoT platform and integration with customer systems. Our goal is to improve safety and efficiency, to automate processes and to deliver actionable insights into industrial operations. Our initial product-line offers a unique solution for manual valve monitoring and additional devices are in development. Aloxy is a spin-off of Imec andUniversity of Antwerp.

The role

As a backend software engineer, you will join the Aloxy IIoT Hub team. This team consists of backend-, frontend and devops engineers and is responsible for improving and maintaining the Aloxy IIoT Hub. The IIoT Hub consists of a set of cloud native services which are deployed on a Kubernetes cluster. You will be collaborating with the frontend- and devops engineers in order to deliver a resilient, scalable and futureproof IIoT platform. Because every IIoT platform is bound to the limitations of IoT devices, the team also collaborates closely with colleagues working on low bandwidth wireless protocols and performance limited gateways.

On a daily basis, you will be:

• designing, implementing and supporting scalable microservices in a distributed environment (quarkus: java and kotlin);
• monitor and maintain the Aloxy IIoT Hub to ensure optimal performance and resolve any issues in a timely manner;
• using messaging technologies (e.g., AMQP, MQTT, Kafka, …);
• designing, implementing and improving HTTP APIs;
• using CI/CD, git and other DevOps tools;
• working with upstream open source projects.

Based on your personal interest you can also:

• integrate with customer systems using existing industrial standards and platforms;
• contribute to and participate in frontend development;
• contribute to open source projects we use.

What we are looking for

• having experience with java/kotlin is a plus;
• having experience with microservices and/or kubernetes is a plus.
